General Liability

Customer slip-and-falls, property damage, and third-party injury claims. Landlords almost always require it.

Professional Liability

Claims from cuts, burns, allergic reactions, or chemical services — the malpractice coverage salons need beyond basic GL.

BOP / Property

Your chairs, dryers, wash stations, fixtures, improvements, and retail product stock in one package with liability.

Equipment

Protects owned equipment against theft or damage — at the shop or, for mobile stylists, on the go.

Business Interruption

Helps replace lost income and pay ongoing expenses if a fire, water damage, or other covered event closes your shop.

Workers’ Compensation

Medical bills and lost wages for W-2 employees hurt on the job. Required in Pennsylvania for most businesses with employees.

Booth Renter Coverage

For independent stylists who rent a chair — liability and often equipment, without covering the whole shop.

Cyber / Data Breach

Help with notification and recovery if client records, appointment software, or payment data are exposed.

Commercial Umbrella

Extra liability limits above your GL and professional liability when a landlord or contract asks for higher numbers.

Booth renters vs. employees: how you classify stylists matters for workers’ comp and liability. If you take a flat booth rent and stylists set their own hours and clients, they may be independent contractors who need their own coverage. If you control schedules and take a split, carriers may treat them as employees. Tell us how it works in your shop — we’ll match the coverage.

Barbershop & salon insurance FAQ

What’s the difference between general liability and professional liability?

General liability covers slip-and-falls and property damage. Professional liability (sometimes called malpractice or E&O) covers claims that a service itself caused harm — a chemical burn, an allergic reaction, or a cut. Most salons need both.

I’m a booth renter. Do I need my own policy?

Usually yes. The shop’s policy typically does not cover independent booth renters. A booth-renter policy can include liability (and often your tools/equipment) in your own name. Ask your shop owner what they require.

Do I need workers’ comp in Pennsylvania?

Generally, yes if you have W-2 employees — even one part-time. Sole proprietors and some owners/officers may exclude themselves. Booth renters who are true independent contractors usually carry their own coverage; misclassification is a common audit issue. Call us and we’ll walk through your situation.

My lease requires insurance. What do I need?

Most leases require general liability with the landlord as additional insured, and many require you to insure your improvements and contents. Send us the insurance section of your lease and we’ll match it.

What do I need to get a quote?

Business type, chairs/stations, services (especially color and chemicals), revenue, employees vs. booth renters, owned/leased space, and equipment values. The form below walks you through it in a few short steps.
